The Brewers have no room for error as they try to chase down the NL wild card spot. But at least they'll have one of their two aces on the mound on Saturday.
Ben Sheets, suffering from a sore elbow that caused him to leave his last start over a week ago, will start for Milwaukee in the team's penultimate game against the Chicago Cubs, manager Dale Sveum announced Friday.
Sheets told Sveum that he feels "as good as he has in a month."
The move to start Sheets means that righty Dave Bush will not have to start on three days rest.
Sveum's announcement Friday comes a day after Sheets seemed totally unsure of his status.
"This one's up in the air," Sheets said Thursday.
Sheets has had a stellar season in Milwaukee, going 13-8 with a 2.98 ERA. With the addition of CC Sabathia in July, many believe that the Brewers have the best 1-2 starters in baseball, and would be dangerous in any playoff series. With a good outing Saturday, Sheets could go a long way towards making that playoff dream a reality.
