The Mets (5?4) defeated the Brewers , 5?4, in Citi (NYSE:C) Field tonight. For a full recap and boxscore, go to SNY.tv.
The least you should know?Livan Hernandez looked good early, but lost steam late, let up one run in the fifth, then let up three runs in the sixth on a home run from Ryan Bruan.
Pedro Feliciano, Sean Green, Bobby Parnell and J.J. Putz each pitched scoreless innings in relief. Gary Sheffield tied the game with his first home run of the season, and the 500th of his career. Carlos Delgado hit a double to start the ninth inning, with the game tied, he advanced to third on a fielders choice, then scored the winning run on a walk-off, infield single hit deep to the right of the shortstop by Luis Castillo. The Game Ball?Tonights Game Ball goes to Gary Sheffield, according to those who responded to my Twitter Feed.Random Thoughts?I love how the entire Mets bench came out to greet Sheffield, crossing home plate, for the 500th of his career - and the Shea, I mean, Citi Faithful called for a curtain call. Castillos walk-off hit reminded me of the final moments of the 80?pitch hitting drill in spring training, with Razor Shines yelling, ?Come on, Luis, winning hit now. David Wright turned a key double play in the top of the third, which avoided a potentially bad situation for Hernandez. The Mets won, but, again, they wasted an early 3?0 lead, which is becoming a worrisome trend. The Quote?Jerry Manuel: We left too many on base tonight be swaggering about anything. If we were clicking, so to speak, the game wouldnt have been that close. The Mets and Johan Santana continue their series against Yovani Gallardo and the Brewers tomorrow at 1 pm in Citi Field.
