--3B Bill Hall was out of the lineup for a second consecutive game Wednesday, but it wasn't because his slight hamstring strain prevented him from playing. With rain delaying the game and making the field slick, the decision was made to hold off on returning Hall to action and not tempt fate. The decision was frustrating for Hall because he has eight homers and 26 RBIs in 40 career games in Great American Ball Park. Hall is expected to play Thursday against the Reds, weather permitting.
--OF Brad Nelson just can't get a hit this season, no matter how hard he tries. By going hitless in a pinch-hitting appearance Wednesday in Cincinnati, Nelson is 0-for-19 for the season. He is 0-for-12 as a pinch hitter. --RHP Todd Coffey made his first appearance since Friday when he pitched the final inning of the Brewers' 15-3 victory Wednesday night in Cincinnati. Manager Ken Macha said he couldn't find a proper matchup for Coffey during a two-game series in Pittsburgh because the Pirates had so many left-handed hitters.
