--C Carlos Corporan, promoted from Class AAA Nashville to replace backup C Mike Rivera (ankle sprain), is in the major leagues for the first time. Corporan is not expected to see much if any action behind C Jason Kendall, who led the majors with 149 starts behind the plate in 2008.

--3B Bill Hall has hit safely in 17 of the 19 games he has started and extended his hitting steak to six games Thursday night against Arizona. The right-handed Hall has pounded left-handed pitchers for a .435 average (10-for-23) and a .783 slugging percentage.

--RHP Jeff Suppan was awful in his first two starts, allowing 11 earned runs in 7 2/3 innings to go 0-2 with a 12.90 ERA. In three starts since, he is 1-0 with a 2.95 ERA (six earned runs in 18 1/3 innings). Suppan attributes his turnaround to having better command of his sinker, which he says is the foundation of his repertoire.

MEDICAL WATCH:

C Mike Rivera (sprained left ankle) went on the 15-day disabled list April 29.

RHP David Riske (right elbow tightness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 10. He will attempt to rehab the elbow through mid-May, but if he is unsuccessful, he might need Tommy John surgery.
