--C Mike Rivera was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle. Rivera was injured Tuesday night when Pittsburgh's Brian Bixler slid into him while scoring on a sacrifice fly. The Brewers purchased the contract of C Carlos Corporan from Class AAA Nashville, where he was batting .333 with three RBIs in eight games.

--OF Chris Duffy got his second start in center field and first since April 12. Manager Ken Macha said he wanted to keep 35-year-old CF Mike Cameron fresh and gave him the day off even though Cameron has been one of the Brewers' most consistent hitters. Cameron is batting .309 with five home runs, 13 RBIs and a .415 on-base percentage.

--RHP Carlos Villanueva pitched the ninth inning Wednesday in a 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh because manager Ken Macha said he didn't want to use RHP Trevor Hoffman on three consecutive days after Hoffman missed the first 18 games with an oblique strain. Hoffman picked up his first save as a Brewer and No. 555 for his career Tuesday night in a 6-5 squeaker over the Pirates.

C Mike Rivera (sprained left ankle) went on the 15-day disabled list April 29.

RHP David Riske (right elbow tightness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 10. He will attempt to rehab the elbow through mid-May, but if he is unsuccessful, he might need Tommy John surgery.
