--RHP David Riske, who struggled throughout spring training with a 8.25 ERA in 11 outings, was no better in his season debut Thursday against the Giants. In one inning of relief, Riske surrendered four hits and two runs.

--INF Craig Counsell made his first start of the season, filling in for 3B Bill Hall. Manager Ken Macha put Counsell in the No. 2 hole to take advantage of his left-handed bat against RHP Matt Cain. Counsell went 1-for-2 with a walk.

--RF Corey Hart, who went 1-for-9 in the first two games while batting second, was moved to the No. 7 spot Thursday night in San Francisco. Manager Ken Macha said it was merely a move to put left-handed-hitting INF Craig Counsell in the second spot for his first start of the season.

--RHP Braden Looper was sent back to Milwaukee ahead of the team Thursday evening. The Brewers were expected to arrive back on their charter flight around 2 a.m. for their home opener Friday at 3 p.m., and Looper was sent ahead to get proper rest for his first start with the Brewers.

MEDICAL WATCH:

RHP Trevor Hoffman (right oblique strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He was merely playing long-toss as of April 8 and had no timetable for his return to action.

INF Craig Counsell (torn meniscus in right knee) opted not to have arthroscopic surgery and will remain on the active roster.
