
--1B Prince Fielder was given something of a rest when manager Ned Yost put him in the designated hitter role in the interleague series opener in Minnesota. Fielder went 0-for-12 in the three-game series in Atlanta to start the road trip and went 0-for-5 as the DH against the Twins.
--INF Joe Dillon got a rare start at first base in place of Prince Fielder. It was Dillon's third start of the season at first. --RHP Eric Gagne returned from a minor league rehabilitation assignment with Class AAA Nashville but was not activated from the 15-day disabled list. Gagne, who went on the DL on May 21 with rotator cuff tendinitis, will throw a bullpen session Saturday and then be re-evaluated.
--RHP Seth McClung had pitched four consecutive quality starts before getting roughed up by the Twins on Friday. In only 4 2/3 innings, McClung surrendered nine hits and five runs, including two homers and two walks.
--The Brewers' record in one-run games dropped to 17-7 with the loss to the Twins. Their 17-6 record had been the best in the majors.
BY THE NUMBERS: 0-for-18 -- The Brewers' stretch of futility with runners in scoring position over a period of two-plus games before RF Corey Hart slammed a two-run homer in the second inning June 22 off Baltimore's Garrett Olson.
