--C Carlos Corporan made his big-league debut Wednesday in relief of C Jason Kendall in a 15-3 romp in Cincinnati. Corporan had been up from the minors for a week, but Kendall had caught every inning of every game over that period.
--LF Ryan Braun proved his aching back was OK by socking the Brewers' first grand slam of the season Wednesday off Cincinnati RHP Bronson Arroyo and later adding a two-run single to finish with a career-high six RBIs. Braun had returned to the lineup a night earlier after missing three starts with back tightness. An MRI showed there was no structural damage, and Braun left absolutely no doubt with his outburst against the Reds. --SS J.J. Hardy entered Tuesday's game at Pittsburgh with only two hits in 25 at-bats (.080) with runners in scoring position. He improved those numbers considerably by going 3-for-3, all with runners in scoring position, and driving in four runs. Hardy boosted his batting average from .167 to .195.
BY THE NUMBERS: 1 -- Previous starts in the No. 3 spot in the batting order for 2B Rickie Weeks, who assumed the role May 3 vs. Arizona. Weeks had not batted third since the 2005 season.
