--OF Chris Duffy was the lone non-roster player to make the Brewers' 25-man roster for opening day. Duffy beat out OF Tony Gwynn Jr., who cleared waivers and was sent outright to Class AAA Nashville.
--OF Brad Nelson put an exclamation point on a stellar spring training by socking a three-run, two-out homer in the ninth inning Saturday night to give the Brewers a 7-4 victory over the Dodgers in their final exhibition game. Nelson earned a spot on the bench as an outfielder-first baseman by batting .354 with four home runs and 19 RBIs. It is the first time he has made the Brewers' roster out of spring camp. --RHP David Riske, who had elbow surgery last September, had a rough spring training, leaving his effectiveness in question. In 11 exhibition outings, Riske posted an 8.25 ERA, with 23 hits allowed in 12 innings. He was deemed healthy enough to make the 25-man roster, however.
--1B Joe Koshansky was claimed off waivers from the Texas Rangers and optioned to Class AAA Nashville. To make room on that roster for Koshansky, the Brewers released 1B Scott Thorman, who batted .300 during exhibition play in spring camp.
BY THE NUMBERS: 22 -- Victories in spring training for the Brewers, most in franchise history. They were 21-18-1 in 1995, when the players' strike extended spring training.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I know I've got to do something on the offensive side. I've got to shed my tag as a defensive player (only)." -- Outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr., after being sent outright to Class AAA Nashville.
