--LHP Chase Wright was acquired from the Yankees in a deal for minor league C/OF Eric Fryer. Wright, 26, who split last season between the Class AA and Class AAA levels in New York's system, was added to the Brewers' 40-man roster and will be in spring camp.
--RHP Ramiro Mendoza signed a minor league deal and was invited to the Brewers' big-league camp. Mendoza, 36, once was a mainstay in the Yankees bullpen but has not pitched in the majors since 2005. He has been recovering from shoulder and hip surgeries. --2B Rickie Weeks avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a $2.45 million contract for 2009. The settlement came just above the midpoint of the figures filed. Weeks had requested $2.8 million, with the Brewers filing for $2 million.
--RF Corey Hart is the lone Brewer remaining in arbitration, and the sides appear to be butting heads. Hart, who made $444,000 last season, filed for $3.8 million. The club offered $2.7 million. Both assistant GM Gord Ash and Hart's agent, Jeff Berry, said there was a difference in opinion as to Hart's value.
--RHP Ben Sheets, who spurned the Brewers' offer of salary arbitration in December and went on the free agent market, might need surgery to repair a lingering elbow injury from last season. That could cost the Brewers. If Sheets doesn't sign with another club before the June draft, the Brewers lose out on the two compensation picks they would have received.
