When right-hander David Riske went on the disabled list with an elbow injury on May 15, the thinking was that he'd be ready to return to action at the end of that 15-day period.

That's not going to happen.

Riske, whose shoulder has been bothering him as well, underwent another battery of tests as well as an examination Tuesday by team physician William Raasch. The veteran reliever was making little progress in his rehabilitation program, prompting the new round of tests, including an MRI.

The good news was that no structural damage was found. The bad news is that Riske will not be ready to pitch when he's eligible to be activated Friday.

"The diagnosis remained the same, a strained shoulder and hyper-extended elbow," said assistant general manager Gord Ash. "He's continuing to heal. No other intervention is needed."

The slow pace of Riske's rehabilitation was one of the reasons the Brewers signed veteran reliever Julian Tavarez on Monday. Because Riske is not even to the stage of throwing off a mound again, it figures to be some time before he is activated.

"We'll continue to move forward," said Ash. "We'll let nature take its course."

BREWERS 1, BRAVES 0: The pitchers ruled the night as Milwaukee's Jeff Suppan and Atlanta's Jo-Jo Reyes locked horns in a pitching duel that wasn't snapped until the eighth inning. Through seven innings, the Brewers managed just two hits off Reyes without advancing a runner beyond first base. When they finally did put a runner in scoring position, they didn't waste the opportunity. Rickie Weeks' two-out triple scored J.J. Hardy with the game's only run and the Brewers took their second in a row at home and third in a row overall. The Brewers hadn't won a 1-0 game since Sept. 20, 2006 versus St. Louis. Suppan allowed four hits and five walks but made pitches when he needed to.
