Left fielder Ryan Braun was still upset Tuesday about being drilled in the back Monday night by Pittsburgh right-hander Jeff Karstens.

"I wasn't even that mad until I watched it today and realized how high it was," Braun said. "When I saw it on replay, I was even madder. That was way too high."

Braun was drilled by a first-pitch fastball from Karstens in the third inning, one at-bat after socking a home run. Replays showed the ball hit Braun right on the lettering of his name atop the back of his jersey.

"They had malicious intent in hitting me," Braun said. "If you want to hit me in the thigh or the butt or the foot, that's OK. But that was way too high.

"When you start throwing up and in, that's not OK. That's not something I'm going to stand for. That's not something we're going to stand for as a team."

Braun, who has been known on occasion to pause and admire a home run, said he did no such thing upon socking his first-inning shot off Karstens.

"If I deserved it, that's one thing," he said. "But I didn't do anything. When I deserve it and get hit, that's fine. I have no problem with it. If they have a problem with me admiring a home run too long, that's part of the game. I understand that. But that was totally uncalled for. It was way too high."

BREWERS 6, PIRATES 5: There's something about the Pirates that just brings out the best in the Brewers. Even trailing 5-1 in the fifth inning against Pittsburgh's best pitcher, LHP Paul Maholm, the Brewers didn't panic. They chipped away at the lead until 2B Rickie Weeks hammered a two-run homer in the sixth off RHP Jesse Chavez to put the Brewers on top to stay. It was a banner night for the bullpen, with four relievers contributing scoreless innings after RHP Dave Bush struggled (six hits, one walk, three HBPs, five runs in five innings). Only one Pittsburgh hitter reached base over those final four innings, but RHP Trevor Hoffman erased him on a game-ending double-play grounder by Freddy Sanchez.
