Manager Ken Macha said he never considered taking slumping slugger Prince Fielder out of the lineup Thursday.

Fielder knocked Phillies ace Cole Hamels out of the game with a liner off his pitching shoulder in the fourth inning, then delivered the big blow with a three-run double in the fifth to spark the Brewers to a 6-1 victory and only their second series victory at Citizens Bank Park.

"I'm just trying to see the ball and concentrate on that," said Fielder, who had only three hits in 29 at-bats (.103) entering the game. "I'm seeing a lot of left-handers."

Macha said he wanted to keep Fielder in the lineup to give him a chance to work his way out of his season-opening slump.

"He's had pretty good years and worked through it," Macha said. "I have confidence he will work through it.

"I don't know what that formula is (in removing players from the lineup). If guys look like they have mechanical problems and need some work, then maybe they need a couple of days off and get in the cage and get a little extra work.

"Prince comes in every day and he works on things. I don't think it's mechanical; maybe a little pitch selection, being a little overanxious."

Macha said Fielder had been concentrating on taking the ball back up the middle and to the opposite field during batting practice. Unfortunately for Hamels, the liner Fielder took up the middle drove him from the game.

BREWERS 6, PHILLIES 1: Dave Bush's no-hit bid ended when Matt Stairs homered off the right field foul pole with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was the third time in Bush's career that he lost a no-hitter in the eighth inning, including a start last June against Toronto. Bush ended up allowing two hits and one run in 7 2/3 innings as the Brewers won their first series of the season. Ryan Braun got things going with a two-run homer off Cole Hamels in the fourth inning, and Prince Fielder added a three-run double off J.A. Happ in the fifth.
