Ryan Braun's recent slump revived speculation that he still is bothered by the intercostal strain that plagued him at the end of last season and resurfaced during spring training while he played for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

But Braun reassured reporters Wednesday that he felt "great, physically," insisting his 2-for-18 skid was not injury-related.

"I'm just still trying to find my timing and rhythm a little bit," said Braun, who added that he still gets daily treatment for the intercostal problem.

"Physically, I feel good, but the swing is not where it needs to be yet. It's not mechanical as much as it is timing. I'm getting pitches to drive that I'm not doing anything with.

"I'm not getting (to) anything, the inside pitch more than anything. But I'm not centering up too many balls right now. I sucked last year in April and I was perfectly healthy. It's just baseball. It's a difficult game. You go through stretches where you don't see the ball well."

Braun then made a surprising comment, saying he really hasn't felt good at the plate for any extended period since his Rookie of the Year season in 2007. That includes last year, when he socked 37 homers and drove in 106 runs.

"I never really felt good last year, not really," he said.

"I'd go for like a week where I felt good (last year). In 2007, I basically went from Double-A to the (Arizona) Fall League to spring training, Triple-A, big leagues. That whole time, that's the best I've ever felt."

BREWERS 9, REDS 3: The Brewers finally combined decent pitching and timely hitting on the same night. And, just like that, a four-game losing streak was snapped. RHP Braden Looper set the tone with six solid innings (six hits, three runs) and the offense broke out with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away. CF Mike Cameron had a huge night with two home runs, a walk and an RBI double. 2B Rickie Weeks also returned to the lineup after a night off and blasted an opposite-field, two-run homer.
