MILWAUKEE (AP) - Left-hander Chris Capuano became a free agent Friday when Milwaukee decided not to tender him a contract for next season.
The Brewers said they were still negotiating with Capuano, who missed last season after injuring his pitching elbow in an exhibition game in March. The 30-year-old decided to try rehabilitation rather than surgery but never returned.Capuano had been told he would probably need Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career because of a torn ligament.
Capuano won 18 games in 2005 and made the National League All-Star team in 2006. He bolted to a 5-0 record in 2007 but lost his last 12 decisions of the year.
