Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Dave Bush's no-hit bid was broken up with one out in the eighth inning Thursday by a solo home run from Matt Stairs.
The homer, on a 3-1 count, stayed just fair inside the right-field foul pole. It came one batter after an outstanding defensive play by Milwaukee third baseman Bill Hall, who ranged into foul territory to grab a chopper off the bat of Greg Dobbs and threw in time to record the out at first base. The Brewers lead 6-1.
Bush's day was far from perfect before the Stairs longball; he had walked three batters and hit two others.
