The 41-year-old Hoffman strained his right side during spring training and hadn't pitched off a mound since March 13 until this week. He threw 37 pitches on Saturday and manager Ken Macha says Hoffman experienced no discomfort.
Hoffman plans to make a rehab appearance for Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, and will probably need at least one more after that before he is ready to rejoin the Brewers.
The career saves leader with 554, Hoffman signed a $6 million, one-year contract in January with Milwaukee as a free agent after spending more than 15 seasons with San Diego.
