
Casey to announce retirement
Three-time All-Star Sean Casey planned to announce his retirement today, Jan. 27, to join the MLB Network. MLB Network president Tony Petitti scheduled a conference call to make the announcement.
Casey played in the major leagues from 1997-2008, hitting .302 with 130 homers and 735 RBIs for Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Boston. His best seasons were with the Reds, his team from 1998-2005.
In other Baseball news:
* Andy Pettitte and the Yankees agreed Monday to a $5.5 million, one-year con tract that brings the lefthander back to New York.
* Veteran catcher Brad Ausmus and the Los Angeles Dodgers finalized a oneyear, $1 million contract.
* Right-hander Zack Gre inke and the Royals agreed to a $38 million, four-year contract that avoided a salary arbitration hearing. Gre inke went 13-10 with a 3.47 ERA in 32 starts for Kansas City last season.
* Craig Counsell and the Brewers completed a $1 mil lion, one-year contract after the veteran infielder passed a physical. The 38-year-old Counsell spent the past two seasons with Milwaukee.
